I’m sitting in a lounge chair on the pool deck basking in the sun.  It’s 2pm.  Nearby, a cricket chirps. It’s hot enough to be in my bathing suit, but I don’t need a tan anymore.  We’re moving into long pants and sweater weather.  That’s why it’s such a treat to feel the sun baking my arms and legs for what might be the last time this year.  The pool is covered for the winter; who would think I could have been swimming in October?

Yesterday we took Grace to Annapolis for lunch.  I love that dogs are permitted in the stores and outdoor cafes.  She’s a showstopper. Taking her anywhere is a bit like traveling with a celebrity.  Everyone wants to pet her, talk about her, take pictures with her.

She is aptly named, the epitome of grace: patient, gentle, generous, loving.

Watching her makes me remember how I want to be with people: open-hearted, expecting kindness, seeing the best in everyone.
