I just got back from four days in New York for the Rich, Happy + Hot Conference with Marie Forleo.  It was unbelievably inspiring. I have much to share in upcoming posts; for now, I’m going to share one story.

The conference cost $1500, which is nothing to sneeze at.  Then you need to add the cost for travel and hotels (in New York) and the whole conference was an investment.  There were people there from 15 different countries all over the globe!

At one point in the conference, Marie talked about all the excuses people make for not following their dreams; one of them is usually “I can’t afford it.”  You need to stop saying that, because if you want something badly enough, you find a way to make it happen.  If you’re not going to find a way, it means you don’t really want it that badly.  You should just say, “That’s not really a priority for me right now.”

Later in the conference, a woman went to the mike to speak to Russell Simmons. After she asked her question, she said, “My mother let me sell our living room furniture in order to get here, but she told me not to come home without giving you my card and asking for a meeting.  So can I give you my card?”

Everyone, including Russell Simmons, was flabbergasted.  He agreed to take her card and told her who to talk to backstage.  Finally, he said, “You sold your furniture?!”

She replied, “I sold the sofa, coffee table, end tables and lamps to get here.”

There’s always a way to make it happen if it’s really that important.

What excuse are you using?
